Lesson 4: “Food Quiz”

The Objectives:

• to revise lexical material on topic “Food”;
• to learn master the use of “have got/has got”;
• to learn to be attentive and hardworking during English lesson;
• to compete in the knowledge of English and Ukrainian proverbs.

Visual Aids:card with tasks, clock, earphones, CD with some music, blackboard.

 

The Course of the Lesson:

• InTRODUCTION:

 

The teacher greets the pupils and organizes the class for the game. He/she introduces the teams and the captains. Then the rules are explained: the Quiz consists of five parts. In four of them teams will get points for the right answers. One round captains play alone.

• THE MAIN BODY OF THE LESSON:

Task 1. Read the secret note. Cross out letters with wrongly spelt words. The first one with the correct answer gets 2 points, second team – 1!

Task 2. Fill in all these boxes:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To know which words to search, first “cut” the snake:

SALADSANDWICHCHICKEN
MILKSHAKEPIZZAFRIES                              

Each word – 2 points.

Task 3. Captains’. You have to answer a set of questions. The quickest gets 3 points, the second one – 1 point! Name the food:

1. It is red and juicy.
2. For this drink you need milk and ice cream.
3. It has got bread, cheese and tomatoes.
4. You put your food and drinks for school there.
5. Monkeys like it.

The captain of the first team is answering the questions, while the second one is listening to music in the earphones.

Task 4. One of the players comes up to the blackboard and picks up two card from the table and read them silently. The words on the cards are:

• Pizza
• Bread
• Grapes
• Cheese
• Salad

 

With a scarf on his eyes he/she has to draw the picture expressing these words. The team guesses twice. One point for each guessed word. The team which will guess them quicker gets 4 point, second runners – 2.

Task 5. Match and find a Ukrainian equivalent to these proverbs about food:

 

• An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
• An apple never falls far from the tree.
• Half of bread is better than none.
• Where there is cheese, there are always mice.
• Don’t cry over spilled milk.

• • • • Яка мати, такий і син.
      • Після бійки кулаками не махають.
      • Нема диму без вогню.
      • Краще пізно, ніж ніколи.
      • Гарно харчуватись – з лікарем не знатись.

 

Every good match – 2 points.
Ukrainian equivalent – 3 additional points.

• SUMMARY OF THE LESSON:

The teacher announces the scores and introduces the winners of the Quiz.
