My Home. Furniture.
Objectives: to revise the words on the topic and to use them in speech;
to improve students’ speaking skills;
to develop listening skills;
to train in using modal verbs and there is / there are.
Equipment: students’ books , CD-player, pictures of the rooms.
Procedure:
I. Instruction.
Greeting.
T: Good morning, pupils!
How are you?
Glad to see you and let’s start our lesson.
What was your hometask for today?
P: ( To learn new words, to describe our rooms.)
Aim of the lesson.
T: Today we’ll speak about your rooms, about furniture and other things.
Warm-up.
Answer the questions:
- How many rooms are there in your house?
- Do you have your room?
- What can you see in your room?
- Where is the table?
II. Main part.
1.Vocabulary Practice.
1) Brainstorming. Make Mind-Map “My Flat”.
- Work in pairs.
Guess the word. One pupil explains the meaning of the word, using modal verbs. The other pupil tries to guess this word.
E. g.: A thing where we can put plates, spoons, forks, cups. We can sit around it and have dinner. ( A table )
2. Oral Practice.
1) Doing exercise 5, page 37.
2) Work in pairs.
Put the furniture, using the plans of the rooms.
- Describe these rooms, using there is / there are.
3. Listening.
1) Pre-listening activity.
Look at the photo with the class.
Ask: Where are Nick and his mum? (in Nick’s bedroom )
What can you see in the room?
Tapescript.
Nick Hi, Mum.
Mum Nick, look at your bedroom. It’s really untidy. Can you tidy it, please?
And look at those football boots! You know you mustn’t leave your
football boots on the carpet. Pick them up now please! And you must
clean them!
Nick Oh, Mum! Can I tidy my room later?
Mum No. You must do it now. Look at this mess! Why are your clothes on
the floor? Put them in the wardrobe!
Nick Mum! This is my favourite TV programme.
Mum Well, you can’t watch it now. It’s Grandma’s birthday party today and
your room must look nice.
Nick OK, OK. Can I go to Kelly’s house after I tidy my room?
Mum Yes, OK. I suppose so.
2) While-listening activity.
a) Play the CD. Students decide whether the sentences are true or false.
Exercise 6, page 37.
b) Check the answers with the class.
c) Post-listening activity.
Answer the questions:
What must Nick do?
What mustn’t he do?
4. Grammar Structure.
1) Read the rules about using modal verbs. Page 37.
2) Complete the sentences. Use can and can’t. Exercise 3, page 37.
3) Complete the dialogue with must or mustn’t. Exercise 4, page 37.
5. Optional Activity.
