Listening to the text “Festivals from around the World”
In August, thousands of people in Bunol, Spain celebrate the festival of La Tomatina. The festival begins with fireworks and a parade. Later, people stand in the streets and throw tomatoes at their friends and neighbours. How many tomatoes do they throw? About 125,000 kilos! That’s a lot of tomatoes. It’s great fun!
Every year in February or March, people in Venice, Italy celebrate the Carnival. They wear fantastic costumes and masks and have colourful parades in the narrow streets of the city. There are parties all round the city, and people sing and dance in the streets. One of the biggest parties is in St. Mark’s Square. You can go to the square and celebrate with thousands of people. But don’t forget your costume and your mask!
In Vietnam in September or October, people celebrate Trung Thu, the festival of the moon. On this day, children carry beautiful lanterns through the streets. They also wear colourful masks and eat traditional moon cakes. Moon cakes are special rice cakes, and they’re delicious!
