The Procedure of the Lesson
I. Organising the Class. Greeting
1) The Icebreaker Game
The teacher comes into the classroom and pupils make a circle. The teacher asks pupils to turn left/right and say “Hello! Have a nice day!” to their neighbours (P1 – P2 – P3 …: Hello! Have a nice day!)
2) Sand-glass
T: During this lesson you will deepen and widen your knowledge on the topic given. But first, look at this sand-glass. What are your expectations of the lesson? Write them down on these sheets of paper and stick them to the top of the sand-glass.
II. Warmer
The teacher plays “Musical Cards” to stimulate the class at the beginning of a lesson and prepare them for learning.
- The teacher plays lively music, ideally the target song.
- Then he/she hands some flashcards out to different pupils around the class. They pass the cards to pupils next to them around the class while the music is playing.
- The teacher stops the music suddenly and the pupils who are holding flashcards, What’s this? To elicit the words.
III. Vocabulary Consolidation
Group-work: The Game “Merry-go-round”: apple, banana, orange, lemon, peach, plum, apricot, pear, grapes; tomato, potato, cucumber, carrot, cabbage, onion, pepper, pumpkin, radish
- (The teacher unites the pupils into 2 teams) You will work in two teams. Every member of the first team will have some card with fruit or vegetables. You should not show your cards to anyone, keep it a secret. The task for the second team is to get the cards from the first team.
- The first team makes a circle with their faces outside the circle. The teacher hands out the cards to every pupil of the first team.During the game the pupils should not move, they stay at the same place.
- The second team makes the circle around the first team’s circle with their faces inside it. The pupils are facing each other: everybody from the first team should have a partner from the second team.
- The members of the second team ask a question “Can I have …?” If their partners from the first team have got it, they give it saying “Here you are”. If not, they don’t get anything.
- When the pupils hear the teacher’s signal (e.g. bell ringing), only the members of the second team make one step left. After making a step the pupils will have new partners. So, they ask a question again.
- The winner of the game is the person from the second team, who collects more cards.

IV. Homework Checking
- Some of the pupils recite the poem “I Like Food”
- Some of the pupils present their projects
V. Listening Comprehension:
1) Pre-Listening:
- Group-work: TheGame “Odd one out”: apple, banana, orange, lemon, cherries strawberry, apricot, pear, grapes; tomato, potato, cucumber, carrot, cabbage, onion, pepper, pumpkin, radish
- Pupils work in 3 groups. Every group gets a set of cards. They spread the cards on the table to see all of them. The pupils collect the cards with those fruit and vegetables that the teacher names.
- Pupils look carefully at the cards and find the odd one out.
The group that finds odd one out first gets the point. The winner of the game is the group with more points.
Example: apple, orange, apricot, banana – banana is odd one out as the rest of the fruit are round;
banana, cucumber, carrot, cherries – cherries are odd one out as the rest of them are long, etc.

T: Find the text below in the maze.
Tom goes to eat breakfast
Tom wants to eat breakfast. He goes to the restaurant. He is hungry. He orders a slice of pizza, a cup of tea and a carton of milk. The waiter asks Tom if he wants something else. Tom says, he wants a piece of cheese and a bowl of soup. Tom eats all his food and pays the bill. He is full now. He goes to work.

2) While-Listening: Game “Teddy Bear Story”
1) T: What is in the fridge? Listen and draw.
It’s night. Teddy wants to eat. He goes into the kitchen and opens the fridge.
There are two apples, two bananas, a carrot and an orange in the fridge, but there isn’t any fish there!
Teddy takes an apple, a banana for his friend Hoppey, the rabbit. Sorry, but there isn’t any fish for his friend Pussy, the cat!”
2) T: Listen again and tick the food Teddy takes from the fridge.

3) Post-Listening:
a) Pair-work: “Food Word Spelling Quiz”
T: Look at the picture and choose the correct spelling of the word:

(Additions 5-6)
VI. Home Assignment:
- Project “My Favourite Menu” (Addition 7)
- Pupils think what they would like to have on each day of the week.
- Pupils draw their favourite dishes and write their names.
2) Pupils have to bring different foods for the next lesson (The teacher suggests foods of different colours)
VII. Summarizing. Evaluation
Pupils come up to the sand-glass and replace their sheets of paper to the bottom of it if their expectations came true.
