Урок “My favourite subject” у 3 класі за підручником О.Д. Карп’юк
Objectives: to practice pupils’ speech on the topic “School subjects”; to develop
speaking and reading abilities, guessing work, work in groups,
dialogue speech; to practice listening and writing; to develop
students’ ability to express their thought logically.
Equipment: pictures, tables, texts for reading, text for listening, picture of Miss
Poppins, signal cards for task on listening.
Procedure
І. Introduction
T. Good morning, girls and boys’?
Ps. Good morning to you,
Good morning to you.
We are all in our places
With sunshiny faces;
Good morning to you.
We are glad to see you.
T. I am glad to see you too. How are you?
Ps. We’re super.
T. O. K. Then let’s begin our lesson.
Aim of the lesson.
Today we’ll speak about your favourite subjects. We’ll work in 3 groups. Each group will have different tasks and at the end of the lesson the winner will get a prize. So, let’s form 3 groups.
II. Main part
- Phonetic exercises
- Repeat the days of the week after me ( the table with the days is on the blackboard)

T. Now, pupils your task is to put a tick at the days when you have Reading (group1), Ukrainian (group 2), English (group 3)
Pupils put a tick and one member of the group puts the table on the blackboard).
- Answer the questions:
- When do you have Reading?
- When do you have Ukrainian?
- When do you have English?
- Do you have Reading on Monday?
- Work with pictures:
T. Now, pupils look at the pictures and answer the questions:
– What lesson is it?
– is it Maths?
– What do you do at Maths lessons?
– Do you speak English at Ukrainian lessons?
– What do you do at Ukrainian lessons?
– Do you sing songs at Sport lessons?
– What do you do at Sport lessons?
– Do you read at Music lessons?
d) Making up sentences with the words ( work in groups)
T. Now, pupils each group has to put the words or phrases in order and
make a sentence.
Group 1: is , favourite, English, our, lesson
Group 2: speak, we, English, lessons, these, at
Group 3: our, days, favourite, Wednesday and Friday, are
T. Are you ready? Let’s read your sentences. (Pupils read the sentences):
– Our favourite lesson is English.
– We speak English at these lessons.
– Our favourite days are Wednesday and Friday.
T. Why are these days your favourite?
P. These days are favourite because we have English on Wednesdays and
Fridays.
- Pupils tell about favourite subjects (2 pupils)
- Game “White Crow” (work in groups)
T. Now, pupils, you have to find a “white crow” among these words and phrases and name it.
Group 1: count, learn poems, read texts
Group 2: draw, sing songs, paint
Group 3: jump, do sums, run
T. Where is the “white crow”?
What lesson is it?
- Singing the song.
T. Whom can you see in this picture?
– What is Mary Poppins?
P. She is a teacher.
T. Let’s sing a song about Mary Poppins.
Miss Poppins is a teacher
She teaches all day long
She speaks and asks,
And gives the task.
And then she sings her song.
“I’m a super teacher.
I teach Kids all day long.
I speak and ask,
And give the task,
To sing with me this song.

Pre – reading task
T. Now, pupils each group will have the task to put the sentences in order to make up texts about schoolchildren. Let’s look at the plan.
Plan
- Name of schoolchildren.
- Country.
- What they like doing.
- Favourite lesson.
- Favourite days.
T. While reading the text pay attention to these points of the plan.
(Each group reads the text)
Text 1
Maths is his favourite lesson. He is from London, England. He has got Maths on these days. He likes doing sums and counting. His favourite days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Tuesday. Bob is a schoolboy.
Text 2
He has got Sport on these days. Stepan is a schoolboy. Sport is his favourite lesson. He is from Kyiv, Ukraine. His favourite days are Tuesday and Friday. He likes playing sport, running and jumping.
Text 3
Stella is a schoolgirl. Her favourite days are Monday and Wednesday. She is from Spain. She has got Music on these days. Music is her favourite lesson. She likes playing music and singing songs.
Comprehension check
- Pupils put the sentences in order and read it.
- Pupils ask questions each other (from different groups)

7. Listening
Pre- listening task
T. Mary’s favourite lesson is English.
Let’s listen to the text and compare her English lessons and yours.

Mary is a schoolgirl. She is in the fourth form. She is from Kyiv, Ukraine. She likes English. Her favourite days are Monday and Wednesday because she’s got English on these days. They speak, write and read English at their English lessons. They sing songs too. Mary likes her English lessons very much.
Post-listening
- Answer the questions:
- What does Mary do at her lessons?
- Do they sing songs?
- When does she have her English lessons?
- When do you have your English lesson?
- Is it “true” or “false”?
(pupils show a green “signal card” if the sentence is “true” and a red “signal card” if the sentence is “false”)

- Mary doesn’t like Reading.

T. Now, pupils, let’s play a game “Who is the quickest boy or girl?” Your task is to write the days of the week as quick as possible.
9. Summarizing
T. Pupils, I want to say that group 1(2,3) is the winner because they did their task the best and each member of the group gets a present (pictures of Mary Poppins). Good for you! Your marks are…
